So this Mother's Day I skipped the traditional card/gift card combo and got a little crafty. I know, I know gift cards are not the most thoughtful, but sometimes, wait who am I kidding, MOST of the time holidays sneak up on me and I just simply run out of time to get super creative. So this Mother's Day I was determined to create something a little extra special that wouldn't bust my budget.
So I turned to Shutterfly....and now you have some customized Mother's Day Mugs. Each one was personally designed by me and represents the three mom's in my life to a tee. The yellow mug is for my mother-in-law who collects "bee themed" items. Her mug is personalized with a saying that says "Queen Bee", a bee graphic and is accented with a yellow interior and handle.
The purple mug is my grandmother's and is designed with a unique saying. As a kid I can always remember her saying " I love you around the world and back again" and she still says it to me to this day. However, we have shortened it just a bit for texting purposes to ATWABA (Around the world and back again). I love it! It's like our own secret code and it is something I will always cherish. So I thought why not design a mug with a super personal touch. Just as with the yellow mug, her's is also accented with a purple handle and purple interior.
Last, but not least, is my mother's mug. She loves red and she loves wine. So why not put those two things together? Her mug says, " There's A Good Chance There's Wine In Here". Since she drinks wine almost every night before bed, I thought that it would be a light-hearted, useful and sentimental gift. Her mug is also complimented with a red interior and handle.
Each mug, except my grandmother's is filled with a small floral arrangement from the local florist. Since I had to ship my grandmother's mug to Florida, I thought that it would be better to accent her mug with one of her favorite candies, Salt Water Taffy.
To compliment the mugs we gave each mom one of our family photos from our "Newlywed" session with Hollylynn Photography (Blog post to come soon). All together each gift cost about $45/each. Not too hard of a hit on the wallet, but still sentimental and personalized.
What did you get for your mom this Mother's Day? Anything DIY or crafty? Feel free to share!
