What is the first thing that comes to mind when you think of wedding stationery? Invitations of course! While those are one of the most important paper pieces they aren’t the whole shebang.
All too often, people overlook the little stationery details such as save the dates, table numbers, welcome signage and more! These stationery items, listed below, are an important and functional part of your wedding day and shouldn’t be neglected.
Invitations
Undoubtedly, this is the most important piece to think about and will probably eat up most of your stationery budget. Just keep in mind the more pizzazz you add the more it will cost to produce and mail!
Things you might include: details/information card, website URL, RSVP card, monogram tag, ribbon accent, wax seals, envelope liners, envelope addressing & more!
Save the Dates
These are essential, especially for destination or out of town weddings, and are typically sent out 9-12 months before you big day! In typical fashion some sort of “Save the Date” card is sent via snail mail. Other alternatives include an email or fun video announcing your big day!
Wedding Programs
Most Brides wait until a couple months prior to the wedding to start talking programs. Don’t be afraid to do something creative and fun! Whether it’s a creative design or quirky wordplay, programs are a great opportunity for your guests to get to know you as a couple and it gives them a little entertainment while they wait for the bridal party to hit the aisle. See one of our past posts for some fun program inspiration.
Menus
You don’t necessarily need to do a menu for every single person in attendance. However, a menu per table or a nice poster sized menu at the beginning of the buffet line adds to the ambiance and prepares your guest’s palette for a delicious feast!
Other menu options include: signature drink menu, bar menu, dessert menus, etc.
Escort Cards/Seating Charts/Favors
I am lumping these all into one because there are so many possibilities and not all of them are particularly necessary. Maybe your escort cards work as a seating chart or you have a seating chart with no place cards. Or better yet, maybe you combine all three, a favor with you name, table number and a short message! See…the possibilities are endless. So think about what will work for you style and budget wise.
Table Numbers
Table numbers aren’t important if you aren’t using a seating chart or plan. But it you are…listen up! Just because they are called table numbers doesn’t mean they have to be actual numbers. Maybe you use names, cities or things that are special to you as a couple! These are also a great place to share fun facts about the bride and groom! Oh and hey…they don’t even have to be made out of paper. Think outside of the “frame” and get creative! For some inspiration check out one of our past posts.
Thank You Cards
Last but certainly not least, your thank you cards are just as important as your invitations. It’s the final piece of your wedding stationery, and it helps your guest remember how much fun they had on your special day. Be sure to order these with your invitations or other stationery pieces so you will be ready to roll after opening those gifts!
